I don't talk politics. I don't talk religion. But these two topics have been weighing heavy on my mind with my state's recent passing of the RFRA bill. Long and short of the bill: Should a business decide they do not want to service a customer or group because of their religious views, they cannot be sued or persecuted. Sounds almost fair, right? In all honesty, any business should be allowed to turn away your money if they so choose; but you should be prepared to catch hell if you don't have a good reason.
But no. My state, the wonderfully bland and always boring fly-over state of Indiana, has been in a tizzy since gay marriage is now allowed. A local bakery was under fire because they turned down an order for cookies. Why? It was for a gay wedding. That business has since then shut down, because the community lashed out at them for being hate mongers. "Well, what if I don't want to service the gays? I don't want to fear similar backlash!" "Fear those sinners no more, dear religious business owner, the RFRA will help you with turning away their money!" Honest question: put yourself in that baker's shoes and let's forget that the customer was a gay couple. Let's just say it's a couple that you never liked. Wouldn't you just come up with an excuse to turn them away? "Sorry, I'm overloaded with orders and can't complete yours on time. Let me give you back your deposit and recommend a fellow shop that could help you." Problem solved, assholes. No fuss, no muss.
I mean, are you fucking kidding me with this RFRA garbage? This shit has been on every news website, every news station, every podcast I listen to, and discussed on every forum I browse. And all I keep hearing is that the rest of the country think Indiana is full of bigoted homophobic pricks. It's humilaiting to hear and read this. There is a video of our jackoff Govener Mike Pence being interviewed and when he is asked "Yes or no question, does this bill allow discrimination?" the mother fucker refuses to answer. Not once, not twice, but three times. Yes or no, asshole? Fucking yes, we are allowing open discrimination now. All because you care about what gender somebody else loves.
